Victorian Dresser
A really stunning Victorian Dresser/Housekeepers cupboard painted in Old Ochre.
This beautiful imposing dresser is very solidly made and has loads of charm and character. Two deep drawers and two smaller drawers above offer plenty of storage and are painted on the inside in Duck Egg Blue and have lovely turned wooden knob handles. The drawers open reasonably well considering the age of the piece.
The glazed cupboard over has original key and wooden fixing on the left hand side to keep the door closed tightly. Two solid shelves fit into a wooden racking system and can be moved up and down to suit. Painted in Duck Egg Blue on the inside to contrast with the Old Ochre finish. There is slight warping to the top of the right hand door but still closes with the key.
The glazed doors have some scratches around the edge and a small 1cm crack on one outer edge but this is hardly noticeable and does not in any way detract from the beauty of the piece. Painted and lightly distressed to reflect its age and then the item has been waxed to finish. The dresser base top has had two coats of acrylic lacquer applied for extra durability.
This piece is in good condition considering it is over a hundred years old but has visible signs of wear and minor damage to the edges of the drawers. Some evidence of old woodworm damge to the back of the dresser which has been liberally treated prior to filling and painting. Please note: the item splits into three for transportation but is still very heavy.
The cornice top has been handpainted with an oak leaf design to add a bit of individuality. A truly bespoke heirloom piece which would add antique charm to any country kitchen.
